Climb-780ft
Flats-2
High 5's all around, we finished our first Adventure cycling map and it say we did 412 miles!!! Walt and Steve started off at the crack of dawn whereas the rest of the group started off at the crack of noon (well not quite but 8:30 with another flat tire). Breakfast at the Horseshoe cafe, super friendly and the full order of Biscuits and gravy was great. The early ride was mostly downhill so we cooked along at 15mph shoulder was a little rough but traffic very light so we spent a good bit of time in the road. Lots of vistas, Saguaro Cactus and a beuautiful sunrise. I love the smell of Mcdonalds ( napalm) in the AM.
Headed into the outskirts of Phoenix, one big city. First we hit Del Webb land -golf courses, retirement communities and strip mall after strip mall of chiropractic, internal medicine, cancer institutes,.... We loved the irony of the big old clydes riding through.  Maybe we'll be ready for this someday but not yet!!!
Worked our way to the town of Surprise and then as Steve said the " orienteering " began. Bernie caught up with us, driving  Big Blue, just as we got off of route 60 so we stopped for a great brunch of blueberries, oranges and fig newtons.   Filled the water bottle and we were off. We all Eventually found the Canal bike path with domesticated ducks and ducklings as well  fish jumping and turtles turtleing?
Biggest adventure was outside of town just north of the university where Oak street was flooded at first then closed , then really closed and finally turned into a trench.
Got in about 1 oclock and met Robin and Doug who had set up a great Saug. blanc and cheese and cracker spread.  The  rest of the crew got sidtracked at the 4 peak brewery where Brandy did a great job serving us  and Steve set up a tour of the brewery for our rest day. Team EFI ( Every F*&&*^ Inch) did the whole ride as well as Cathy Osgood who hit her 420 mile goal for the week.
Back at the hotel we made arrangements for dinner with Ken and Lois ( friends of Stan and Joan who are restoring their 1931 REO Speedwagon ( not just  a rock group ).
Went to House of Tricks for dinner , really cool place with great food but dangerous for the Clydesdales because it is illegal in AZ to bring wine into restaurants so we ordered off  the wine list ---ChaChing$$$$$)
Home to bed without having to set the alarm for 5 o'clock
