Day 24 it's important to rehydrate

The clydes receive the first drop ship case of wine. Thanks angeles Joanie.  Stan lugs the case 1/2 mile(his ankle must be better or he is really thirsty)  laundries are going ..the tweekers are playin The Band...and of course a bottle of SB...life is good today!!


Day 24. Rest day oh yea!!!!

Breakfast at #1 zagat rated resturant.steve will soon replace jarad as the next spokesman for this culinary hotspot.


Day 23 12 miles to go. Crossinv the Amistad reservoir. Winds are howling and so are the clyde quads. We make it to the Ramada for pitchers of beers and a dip in the pool. Steak buffet dinner steve and walt go for the seniior menu 8.95. First vegetables we've seen in 3 days. We are all in bed by 9:30 and don't get up till 8am.

Day 22 the cowboys

We promised you cowboys. About sundown these three showed up to pick up a trailer of hay and swap lies. We shared some rum and snuff and then discovered they own the ranch with the goats. We stopped at earlier. These guys are the real deal!!!   The picture focus reflects my state of mind

Turns out the owners have the tallest great dane any of us have ever seen... and his name is Gus!!  Stan gets his dog fix for the day

Really beautiful deep cut gorge with a low guard rail..long drop too the water...and high cross winds. Wow nelly!!!


Day 23 Langtry to El Rio

Bbq brisket ..ice creams..crackers for breakfast. Winds are even worse but the canyon scenary is beautiful...we are headed to the pecos river and the amistad recreation area and lake.

The winds we're so bad we couldn't make it past 60 miles. But we found mike and maryann who rented us a trailer out back. They made us BBQ brisket. Sandwhiches for dinner and breakfast.

Really sparse out here. We spot angora goats near a water cistern and aeromotor. Turns out we will.meet the cowboys who ranch this later.


Day 22 sanderson to langtry

Any body recognize this part.  Steve had been noticing some weird shifting. Walt spots a broken plate and walt and stan break out the alien tool and use the super link and we're on the road again.

Wake up to 15 mph head winds. Walt at the sight of a train robbery.  Foiled when a train agent kills one of the robbers with an ice mallet.  One of Butch Cassidys boys but clearly not the brains of the outfit.


Day 21 alpine to sanderson

Arrive in sanderson and check into the Desert Aire motel scott charges us 42/room. We head out for a salad and end up with chili cheese tater tots at the eagle nest. Met sandy and rosie , helped sandy install her new computer. Played guitar infront of the motel. Inspected the new convention center being built for a dying town of 800-- gotta love local politics.

Day 21. Alpine to Sanderson TX end of the third week

Hotel holland fails to produce breakfst,walt loses his visa card (it's back) , a rocky start to the day but all is well we start with a 31 mile ride to marathon tx where we have great biscuits and gravy and home made pies with Don and jackie boyd the owners of the burnt biscuit bakery . So of course Stan poses with his long lost cousins.

Short ride today. Right out of gown we find evidence of the fires.  We 've seen lots of trucks and helecopters but no fires close up.

Day 19 the clydes are celebrating 0.3333

Yes friends we are one third done.  1066.666 miles and today was a load almost 6000 feet and 90 + miles.   Big horn sheep, vultures circled us for much of the ride. Fix and stan visited the mcdonald observatory's new telescope. Steve and walt opted for the historic Limpia inn and some pine ridge vigonier/chenin blanc.  We all agreet this was the toughest day yet. Ft Davis is very scenic far west texas town.  The boys are enjoying cowboy steaks with rum and coke and tequila sunrises.  We'll sleep in tomorrow. 10 hours in the saddle may require a rest day of sorts.

Day 18 the clydes move into the central time zone

Almost in Van Horn TX.  started with a bunny on the porch in ft hancock a quiet ride along the border and finished with a long climb with a 20 mph tailwind.  Final stats 75 miles and 1800 feet of climbing.  At least one of our computers says we are just over 1000 miles! !!!!!

Day 17 hyd(rate) with the clydes

Ok the pool was empty and they were painting outside our room and it was blazing hot but check out the dual ice buckets ---beer is on your left, hard lemonade on the right.


Day 17 lesson learned

Really hot day but hey we clydes can take care of ourselves even without the angels. We headed for the pool cause we asked if they had one but we forgot to ask about the water.  They assured us they do have plans to fix it some day. Splish splash!!!

Day 15 And then there were four --Las Cruces to El Paso

The core four at the top of anthony pass. We end the day in a microtel hotel in el paso. 71 miles and 1800 feet of climbing. Getting into el paso was a task 20 miles on the 375 loop a major freeway and this was the bypass loop that was trying to keep us off the worst roads??
